Don't even need to surf to a news site or turn on a television; I can hear the partying in the streets. I heard it was one hell of a nail-bitter too! I may go join them later, because I really can't resist a euphoric crowd. (But first, copyright and laundry!)

Thanks to everyone for commenting on my last post <3 It's been a frustrating semester, but I think I'm mostly in a better headspace now to push through to the end.

Why hello there!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aldehyde and [livejournal.com profile] deeplyunhip for your lovely cards! I found them waiting for me when I got in last night. That does mean I'm back in the east, happily settling back into routines. I missed you, eddoes and kolhrabi! (Could not find them on the west coast and it was sad.) I'm currently losing the jet lag battle, but give it a few days; I always have a harder time coming east than going west.

Though it wasn't all on what I should have been working on (ficathon deadline is starting to loom), I wrote some comment fic over the holidays. Riley-centric TSCC fic here, Martha-centric Doctor Who fic here, Torchwood Jack fic here and a little bit of love for Supernatural's Ellen Harvelle.

I'm not entirely happy with the Martha fic in particular; I'm far too wordy and maybe it's formality that I don't like in the tone, but I can't quite put my finger on the problem with it. I like the Jack piece best. I'm so much more comfortable with dialogue!

Tonight could have gone a lot better. I spent almost two hours trying to find Ephraim's house (the trip should have been around half an hour, less if I'd timed the buses better) and finally caved and hopped on the streetcar home when I established that none of the people I specifically invited to the party - and so who knew no one else - were going to make it. I'm in a lot less pain than I thought I would be, but I'm also in a safe, quiet place and you can bet your damn boots that since I woke up in pain this morning, a two hours walk-about with a heavy knapsack has ensured I'll do it again tomorrow. I know it's really awful manners to skip the party you're cohosting (and I am sorry), but there's only so much health I can fake and I probably would have pain flared if I'd pushed on much longer. No party needs a guest (or a host!) spending at least an hour twisted up and sobbing in uncontrollable pain. (Today would be the first day in three weeks that I've forgotten to pack my pain medication.)

I really need to stop doing so much, except at this point, I'm really down to skipping class and class-related workshops. Which means I can collapse in a heap Thursday night and not move again until Monday morning, but in the meantime, I've got to keep it together as best I can.

Edit: Now with added humour shamelessly ganked from fandom_wank.

A figher, a wizard, a cleric, and a thief walk into a bar. The bartender says, "What is this, a party?"

Second iSchool event went well! Commited some awkward social faux pas is failing to say a proper goodbye the group I was standing with (plans changed suddenly when I wasn't looking and that always, always throws me for a bender). This isn't ideal, but as I am wont to be lacking in all of the proper niceties anyway, maybe it's good warning? I was terribly useful while playing iSchool bingo, as finding someone, anyone from the Archives stream was difficult (I should know - I couldn't sign my own and had to search for someone else.) In a pinch, I also served as an "is from out of province" signee, which was maybe a bit sketch.

The end result of today was a free lunch and several coffee "dates" to follow-up on, though I can't be sure I'll actually still be invited to the group coffee. Either way, hooray for people!

Hi guys :)

Hope you're all well. If you don't update much (or even if you do!), what is new and exciting in your life?

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Not all of you celebrate and others refer to today as "Singles Awareness Day", but I've always taken February 14th as a day to let my friends know that you're all quite fantastic. So again, Happy Valentine's Day, dears.

Now for srs bsnss: fandom.

Spoilers for Torchwood 2x06/Reset (but not for 2x05/Adam). )

NOW IT IS TIME TO GET TONIGHT'S PARTY PREP COMPLETED.

Merry Christmas, dear ones. Joyeux Noël!

I knew I was back home, but now I know I'm here. I've now had a row with my family and I've gone out and seen my friends. That's about right.

I have gone through yet another AC adapter power cord. That's the third one since August.

I have a short journal entry, a five page lit essay and about 750 words for a take-home exam left to complete. It's getting to be a bit of a time crunch, since I'd like to be done by Monday night, but so long as I can get it in gear today I should be fine. Must remember to carve out time for Lord of the Rings watching with Grace and Robert! I am going out caroling tomorrow as a last GME hurrah!

Canadian Native Autobiography continues to be made of awesome. Maud is right, we need to form a storytelling circle.

"The Minority Report" was a surprisingly excellent movie. The last two movies I've seen have been movies that have made me think and try and work things out and I've absolutely loved it. Evidently, I need to find more movies like this. I believe my housemate Grace said we were going to have to watch "Frequency" next!

Getting out of the house for a few hours without the dog, without the family, and hanging out with Steve was awesome. (Once more - Happy Birthday, kid!) I will have to try to get to game on Sunday so I can repeat the general experience. I want to see you all!!!! (Even if I know game doesn't contain everyone. I will have to make plans with the rest.) I just hope my body will co-operate with this plan.

I've been informed that I'm bleary eyed and developing bags under those same eyes, so I will get some much-needed sleep now. Busy day tommorow.

ps The Weeping Angels? TERRIFYING and amazing villains. Holy crap. It reminded me that I need to get going on watching Doctor Who.

I think I would like to start commiting half an hour to an hour of each day to writing. This may be difficult, however, as my life is currently devoted to catching up at summer school (with that last opera paper floating around at the back of my head) and to reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Which is actually sometimes heartbreaking and sometimes genius. I also sometimes wish that Toph had a different name.

It's nice to finally *want* to write again. I hope the impulse sticks around.

I had to go pick up some supplies for my project last week and hapily, Joyee was working that day. Then, earlier this week, I ran into Peter while out with the dog. I'd have walked right past him, so I'm glad he recognized and called out to me! Both encounters were brief, but they were still quite nice. Friends for the win! Especially when they come with hugs and smiles!

I just got in from my romantic Valentine's Day date. We ate far too much (or was it just enough?) food. Either way, it was a fantastic time. Not only was she my Harry Potter Hardcore Valentine, she took me out to dinner today. Heart, Rebecca!

I think I meant to be working on a paper due tommorow right now, but I can't quite focus on writing a LiveJournal post, which is a terrible sign for anything more complex. I guess I will be putting my take-home exam into floating deadline limbo. However, the deal will be that the first draft will be donezo before Wednesday night, or I can't go to Geek Night. And believe me, I am going to Geek Night this week.

To those of you who care... Happy Valentine's Day! Hugs and kisses!

To those of you who don't... Happy Wednesday! (Hugs and kisses you to you too!)

... is it already Wednesday? Do I really leave in three days? Have I really done so little homework? Aaaaaaaah!

It seems to be a climate of snowy doom back east. While I'm looking forward to all that snow to play in when I get back, I'm just as happy to avoid travelling the city when it's coming down. I'll take my west coast spring! No cherry blossoms yet this year, but the crocuses and other flowers are all getting ready to bloom. (Those of you back east do not want to know the kind of temperatures I am enjoying.)

Koi-san. That was one of the best rehearsals in history ever. We should do it again sometime. (Oh wait...)

I did not get cast in "Tales of an Everyday Soldier", but I had a really great audition for "A Beautiful Afternoon" today. Will hear back relatively soon, I imagine.

Still no word back about my Freezer Fest entries and whether or not they have been accepted. Curse you, Kevin!

... I really love people, especially my friends. Just to clarify for anyone who might not have figured that out by now.

Life is crazy.

Aramenta took pretty pictures of me today and seemed a little surprised when I agreed with her that I photograph well (but not always :P) and am beautiful. We made the mistake of taking some shots in direct sunlight; it looks like I am bleeding light out of my face, like in the sci-fi shows. It was kind of neat. I can't wait to see her top five pic(k)s. (Ha! Pun!)

My mother and grandmother arrive for a short stay tommorow. I don't know exactly how long they'll be here, but probably no longer than a few days. It will be nice to have some company in the apartment! At the same time, I am almost dreading it. There is still a very strong sense of "Mine!" about this city and this part of my life.

I don't get to roleplay this week, but we had a really good session last Sunday (Blood sacrifice for the win!) and Mitch and I may finally settle the score on Agility vs Brute Force by pitting his Sidereal against my Lunar. He'll be hard as all hell to catch or hit, but I'm built to take punishment and keep steamrolling on. If I can get him in a clinch, the game is mine, but getting him into the clinch is the hard part. The characters have sparred before, but it was a charm-free exercise. We'd be going full-out, this time. Mitchell has the added advantage of being better at roleplay fighting. (I admit it, I would really, really hate to lose this fight.)

You know, I don't really care what anyone else says. The Scott and Frost library people are lovely. They've been making phone calls and checking things out when they could have said "Nope, sorry, your problem." and been totally justified in doing it. I am so damn lucky!

It was a good weekend! Celebrated Epiphany with a dinner part at the Blonde's house and had a short, but sweet gaming session last night. They think I'm some kind of god (or some kind of demi-god, at the very least, after seeing my solar anima flare up), but probably a stupid one since I am incapable of communicating with them beyond flailing arms and facial expression. Ah, Linguistics 0. Physically, I'm still a little wrecked, but I don't believe I'm any worse off than when I started, which is a wonderful start. If I can just make it to Wednesday...

Farscape Season 4 is in! Fangirl SQUEE! The new major villain... is kind of a letdown. The show has reasonably strong writing, so I can only assume she's a ratings grab, especially considering this is the season the show was cancelled in. And to be fair, the kinds of flaws in the characterization that I will gladly overlook in a protagonist, I will use to rip a villain to bloody, bloody shreds.

Power!

I have just received what may be the comfiest pair of pyjamas I have ever owned. And I have owned some really, really comfy pyjamas. I might have to have a sleepover just so I can abuse their touchability in order to be cuddled.

My gifts were largely practical in nature and I'm glad to see them. I think Bob was the only one to get any significant number of fun gifts; he's also the only one of the kids still living at home. Items of interest include:

Space saver! )

My grandmother also let me ransack her collection of scarves... yes... pretties...

It's about that time of year when I think about going clothes shopping again. I could make do a while longer, but it might be nice to have a pair of pants that actually fit! I also need preppy!jeans for work on set; I do not currently own an acceptable pair. I'm not sure if I'll have time while I'm in Victoria (we are headed up-island tommorow for a few days to ski), though Wren has offered quite enthusiastically to take me.
