What the hell?

I don't hold books my as incredibly sacred. (Maybe just a little?) I have a lot of respect for them and I'd probably hesitate before ripping pages out of them or cutting them, but writing in the margins? Highlighting? Folding down corners? Sure. Why not. I know some bibliophiles consider this sacrilegious, but books are meant to be used, enjoyed, and understood and if that takes a few folded corners and pencil marks, then I fail to see the problem. It's a little shakier with a library book, but so long as it's still legible for the next person, I do not really consider it a big deal.

Ripping thirty pages out of a library book, however, is a whole other ballpark. That's half a chapter, just gone. RRRRRRrrr.

Ugh, I had a book from the library once that had been censored. For being sexist. Against males.

The book was about eighties science fiction fandom. It wasn't sexist, it was reflecting the state of eighties science fiction fandom! And I'd kinda like to know what those sentences were!

While sexism is an awful thing, blacking out the sentences you disagree with is a ridiculous solution. If it really bothers you that much, report it to the library and get them to take it off the shelves.

I can be sexist *and* reflecting the state of eighties science fiction fandom :P

From the context around the "offending" sentences, it wasn't sexist, it was an accurate portrayal of the way a lot of male fen regarded female fen back in the day.

And either way, LIBRARY BOOK. :p
