This evening's excursion has me convinced that I could probably deal with small-town life, though I do not have any plans to leave either of my current, more urban, homes. My family went down to Esquimalt to the Naval Base to look at and vote on the lighting displays on the ships and buildings. I loved it. I mean, it's not the super best thing I've ever done, but I really did enjoy it. I don't mind kind of hokey things one bit. Some of my favourite events back in Ontario are all within the neighbourhood as well. At any rate, no plans to move, so I'll continue enjoying the best of both worlds. Lucky me!

On a side note, I saw a submarine today! (It was in dry dock, not underwater.) I have never seen a real one of those before! Though it's kind of sad that our one Pacific-coast sub is second-hand (from the Brits) and that the Canadian Pacific fleet flagship was commissioned in the seventies. I understand that it's still seaworthy and gets the job done, but it seems that the freakin' flagship ought to be younger than I am. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying armies are the most important thing and I'd much rather see most of that money poured into social programs, health and education, but there's also that stupid reality where you've got to have an army if you want any real clout in the modern world. So much has changed and yet in the end, everything is still the same in so many ways. (Though this is probably not the best subject with which to draw that analogy.)

I am going to go get some rest!
