Fannishness
Jul. 16th, 2007 10:13 pmI saw the latest Harry Potter movie today!
I quite liked Luna (even if things started off a bit rough), was really disappointed by the Cho plot line, wanted to see more from Ginny, wanted to hug Neville, was unimpressed with Tonks (but then, she didn't really have a chance to win me over and in the meantime, I find her look all wrong) and thought Umbridge was brilliantly annoying. I still think Michael Gambon makes a rubbish Dumbledore, but I wasn't happy with Richard Harris either.
Distractingly, I kept comparing all of the phone booths to the TARDIS and found them all lacking (even the normally charming red ones) and when Gary Oldman showed up on screen wearing a brown pinstripe suit, I immediately thought of David Tennant's Doctor, even if the pinstripes weren't blue. Actually, I thought about the Tennant's Doctor a few times, since we saw Moody and David Tennant was the evil Moody imposter Barty Crouch Jr in the last movie.
In conclusion, the flow was a bit choppy and episodic, but it was a solid adaptation that managed to carry some themes really nicely, and I am still besotted with Doctor Who.
Edit: Christopher Eccleston is in Heroes! I'd read that somewhere and forgotten about it, but the moment he opened that mouth of his in episode thirteen, I realised it was him! That accent is unmistakable. I keep expecting him to break out into that lunatic grin and say "Fantastic!"
