Interestingly 4 (tom baker) is one of the most popular and had the longest tenure (7 years), he later regeted not participating in the episode. I think it gives a good introduction to the personallity types of the early doctors certainly. For a good episode try Spearhead from Space with Jon Pertwee (3), this is the third doctors debut episode (and the for colour doctor who too).
