akeyoftimeI've been watching Veronica Mars this afternoon. It's just a little bit addicting. EDIT: I lied! There is nothing "a little bit" about it!
Which made me squee incredibly loudly, several times, even if "Luke" continued to be an awkward name choice for a misguided genuis. (Luke Smith, Sarah Jane will so ground you if you ever try a stunt like that.)
Overall, I was really impressed with this script. Helen Raynor's last outing on this show (Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks) left me pretty cold, though I did love Torchwood's To the Last Man, which I think I declared, at the time, the best episode of Torchwood yet. (I don't know if I'd still run with that assessment - a rewatch would be needed!)
The continuity with Doctor Who's past was awesome! The Brigadier got his reference (and a knighthood!), the old macro standby of "Are you my mummy?" was canonized, seeing the Valiant again, the tips of the hat to past Sontaran stories, and oh, OH, we get Martah for an off-world adventure. Or at the very least, travel in the TARDIS. <3 the new team! Even if it cannot last! I was also indescribably pleased, last week, that Martha and Donna didn't fight. Their continued bonding (You must be over him if you're calling him dad.) was gleeful. Super fun episode, hooray! (You will turn and face me! *bang* - the Sontarans really are brilliant villains.)
I was very sad to see Russ go and the bit about burning away the clone feed was... dodgy, at best. Especially as it was burning through the lower layer of the atmosphere! (Who needed those planes - planes probably outfitted with ATMOS, come ot think of it - and birds anyway, eh?) Which actually brings up the question of when and why all of the cars stopped spewing the toxic gas. Still, as it was pointed out by another fan, there's got to be some neat meta in there about the Doctor burning a planet to save it.
In conclusion, I am now craving more steampunk!Torchwood.
