I've been reading a Gravitation (anime) doujinshi (fan comic) for the last few weeks now, and have been rather enjoying it. I'm on the boards and my post count is actually going to overtake my other boards very rapidly... but that's not the point.
The point is, we've had a member speaking out. It started with a review of the fanfic that spawned the doujinshi. It was at once a writer's dream and a nightmare. Brutal honesty, but constructive - but She's been degenerating.
Her last post, regarding the doujinshi in particular was more flame than anything else. Which annoys me, because, if she hates it that much, don't read it. I'll readily admit, there are aspects about the site I don't like either. The flashback scenes feel constructed, rather than natural, but that's actually my biggest complaint. I'm not a critical person by nature. I can take the overall package and enjoy that, which I've done.
But this person is frelling annoying. I wanted to reply, but I haven't been in that thread at all, and I didn't want to stick my fingers in where they didn't belong.
So a big kudos goes to Misaki, who wrote an excellent reply to this flamer, saying everything I wanted to say, but nicer.
I swear, I'm turning really rather bitchy lately. I blame it on the stress.

Date: 2003-12-03 12:14 pm (UTC)Yes, at first it seemed like a good, honest and intelligent review. But then...it went down hill.
And I'll also admit that I have some problems with the Fic/Doujinshi, but I agree with you totally about liking the overall package and not being over-critical.
"Battle against Mary Sues"?!...I still don't get it. >_

Date: 2003-12-03 02:06 pm (UTC)Back to the point at hand, I'm going to blunt and say now that Sammy cannont defend herself. I'm not saying she's inept. I'm saying that *no* one could defend themself against this type of poster. Her views aren't changing any time soon.
I'm tempted to just say the hell with her and propose to Sammy that the flamer be given a public warning about flaming, and if she doesn't relent (and she won't, because I can just *see* the indignant, disgusted reply to that), then she's off the forums.
I've been dealing with crap in one of my roleplay groups: my approach to how all this should be handled has changed quite a bit in the last few days. You shouldn't have to put up with flaming, especially when it's *your* forum.
