*sounds of explosions and all that crashy stuff*

I suppose I was due. Oh well. Early to bed tonight and no work in the morning should help.

Blech.

Aside from that, all is well.

Edit I wrote these two stories for Writer's Craft in OAC and I was hugely proud of them both. I've been meaning to type them up and put them in [livejournal.com profile] keypers for quite some time. Only I sat down and re-read "Coffee on Queen" and oh good lord, I'm kind scared to read "Escape". Yes, there is something solid and still good about the former, but there's just so much about it that is cringe-worthy. It's like picking up your favourite childhood novel and realising it's not the excellent piece of litterature you thought it was. Alas.

I can sympathise with re-reading woes - I seriously don't think any of my stuff is good when I re-read it but lots of other people seem to love it. *shrug* Go figure!

[btw you've been friended]

Indeed. Even just reading character backstories I wrote last last year, they now seem poorly written and kind of cheesey.

You read those backstories, didn't you Katie? What did you think of them?

I would be interested to read Escape. You've told me much about it.

I wonder if I still have my WC competition submission somewhere..

I read those. It was a year ago and I am still pre-Alertec. Let me re-read them (I think I might still have them?) and get back to you this afternoon when I'm drugged :P Besides, I know I've done a lot of growing this year, so my perception of them may have changed.

I'm much more confident in my fanfiction than my original fiction and I can't think of a single RPG character concept I would like to stuff in a closet and forget about. (Or maybe I've already done that to the truly awful ones? :P ) It's funny how I'll allow for the learning curve with one kind of creativity, but not with another.

*hugs*
if you think about it: good ideas are the hardest to come by...
even if you're no longer a huge fan of your style, you can always reuse/rework to use the core idea, which is the most important part!
plus
i'm very aware that you're probably too hard on yourself. someday i'll read it and prove you wrong!

pleeeeeeeeeeeeease get lots of rest soon so you can take on the world again soon.

I am probably most objective when it comes to my writing. My acting I simply go "Eeep!" and run away. It occured to me the other day that while I am paranoid about improv, what the heck do I think I'm doing every week at LARP? The parameters are more tightly defined, but really now.

I developed a critical eye for writing when I took Writer's Craft, so as I re-read this old stuff, I know I had a good idea and that there are some great moments and bits and themes. It's just the old execution that makes me go ick.
