Apr. 17th, 2007 03:01 pmQuick thoughts on "Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars" (and spoilers for "Serenity")
It feel into some cliché traps (helloooooo character death) and this obsession with pairing folk off continued, but it was nice to see some life breathed back into Aeryn. She felt a bit like a real character again. I was so pleased to see her cranky with being pregnant, trying to *fight* even though she was in labour and even her explanation of why she was so pleased to be pregnant was nice. Naming the baby D'Argo was as appropriate as anything else I suppose, and "Little D" is adorable, but it's cliché to name the newly born baby after the newly dead crewmember. I've seen it too often to get any real pleasure out of it.
You know, as mad as I am with Joss for killing off Wash, at least it was a reasonably creative death. Most of us don't die in a blaze of glory and Wash certainly didn't. From a purely objective point of view (which is hard, because I love that character), it was a nice change of pace.
Babybabybabybabybabybabybabybaby! I don't know that I'm super excited about the baby, or super excited that it was established that this was John's desire and not as much Aeryn's. She was so out of character in the season four finale that it hurt!
No points for some questionable science, but no deductions either because plot points had to be moved along in a hurry because of the nature of things. But seriously, a few *days* for a pregnancy? And how did the little crystal get reconstructed into a baby anyway? Totally unecessary subplot and not even that amusing. I'm also willing to write off Chianna's new eyes, even though I was really looking forward to the thought of a disabled character. Rats.
Why and how did brilliant scientist, spoiled princess Jool go wild? It's never explained and frankly, I'd like to know. There was no good reason for that and if I recall correctly, she was all over D'Argo, not John, when last she saw our heroes.
I can only assume Lani Tupu forgot how to voice Pilot, because I would have sworn (before I went to look it up on IMDB) that there was a new voice actor. You can still hear it if you're listening closely, but the difference is large enough that I found it a little grating and really didn't enjoy commentary from Pilot.
Dear writers: stop it with the Moya inside atmosphere bit! You established the second episode of the first season that Leviathans don't do that because they're so heavy! Oy with the poodles already!
But thank you for the Harvey sequences. They are almost unfailingly delightful.
I loved that Noranti was sucking the Aeryn/John crystals clean as if Rygel hadn't just vomited them back up. She is crazy and wonderful. Also fantastic to see Jothy again. That was an outstanding plot point that really needed some resolving.
