Aug. 12th, 2007 08:54 pmDear Doctor Who fandom,
Please stop writing Doctor/Rose reunion stories. (This goes for "Rose meets alternate universe Doctors" too). They were very lovely for a while and cathartic too, but the horse is dying, if not dead. Let's see some more stories where Rose gets on with her life! (Hoo boy, I hope that ficathon happens!)
I know we all miss her, but wouldn't it be interesting to see where her path goes if she stays with altTorchwood and her family? "Rose Tyler, Defender of the Earth" and all that? It makes me sad to see so many promising alt-verse set-ups abandoned a few chapters in.
Love,
Me
ps. I want to write "Rose comes back to this universe and then chooses to leave again" (because it's where her life is now, and it's where she has people who love her and that she loves). Implied in that statement is that the Doctor does not, in fact, conveniently show up or get conveniently summoned. Doctor-free not-reunion fic! (Except that I would actually be a tease, since everyone would expect it to be.)

Date: 2007-08-13 05:31 am (UTC)I count some otherwise shippy stories as genfic when the pairing is so entrenched in cannon that it's the default relationship. I wrote a Yuki/Shuichi short piece a few years ago where Shuichi whines because Yuki won't help him finish a song, and mid-makeout, Yuki whispers the last line to him. Predictably, Shuichi forgets all about sex and scurries off. Pairing? Yes. But for that fandom, it feels pretty gen, maybe because the series is about their relationship, and in this case it complements, rather than takes over the whole story. Does that make sense?
I sometimes rule "Sex is just sex" stories as genfic too, if only because I really hate seeing them labeled as a pairing fic.
What are you talking about? You know lots! Your voice so counts.
