Oh Battlestar, you're so zany.

I've spent the last two or three days marathoning it through Battlestar. These reactions are just that: reactions. Scattered thoughts ahoy!

The second season doesn't quite have the elan that the first had, but things might click back into place now that everyone is, well, back into place. Much I loved Lee for standing up for his beliefs (and I do love Lee, he's one of my favourite characters on the show), I missed seeing him in uniform! It's a very natural fit to me; he belongs on Galactica.

Dee keeps getting more and more awesome as the show goes on. I'm also wondering if placing a black woman at communications isn't a nod to the original Star Trek. I went to look it up on IMDB but was rapidly discouraged by the immediate spoilers. (Lee is married? WHAT? But tru wuv with Kara! Please do not explain, I'll get there sooner or later.)

Starbuck, please keep kicking ass and taking names. Same with you, Chief. Starbuck also cleans up gorgeous! Wow.

I've developed an interesting sort of affection for Commander Adama and Roslin. They're really interesting characters and great to watch play off of each other, but I can't quite love them. I suppose what I'm feeling is closer to respect.

I hope Ellen is actually human and just really obnoxiously manipulative. Making her a Cylon is too easy.

IS GAIUS CRAZY? I don't know, but it sure makes for interesting TV. But seriously, if we are actually being guided to the end of the human race, way to end things on a downer, guys. Unless it's a human/Cylon mix kind of end. Is that a sci-fi trope yet?

I loved the 70s feel of Colonel Ty's flashbacks (oh the mustache. Hello nod to the original series. I've seen some of the flashbacks from Razor, which don't have the same look at all. Pity.

I've just finished "Home", the first two-parter of the second season, which ties all of the mythology known to date together very closely. First off, I can't help but wonder if Lee's call sign isn't going to be significant. It's also driving home how euro-centric this show is. Does it have characters of other races? Sure! But the founding mythology (the "true" mythology, in a way, the one with a factual basis here on Earth) virtually ignores all of the other mythologies that exist Even the Cylon faith closely resembles Christianity (and that's probably the point). I'm not saying that this is wrong - you could hardly synthesize all of the world's beliefs together in a recognizable way, for all the similarities and interrelationships - but it's still what it is.

I know we were meant to be suspicious, like Kara, of her surroundings in the mental hospital, but all I could think was "Yep, this is a Cylon set-up. And Farscape did this better." Or differently, at least. Farscape took itself so much less seriously than western science fiction tends to and I'm just coming to realise that now. Srs bsnss shows (like Battlestar) are great, but it's fun to have something than can be more flippant around too. And Kara still rocked that episode.

I hope the resistance manages to destroy every damn farm. I'll be watching those webisodes when the time is right.

My health is still made of fail, but a visit to the acupressurist on Thursday has made me low-level functional again. I love being functional again!
