I am feeling really good, even though it's been a bit of a rough day physically. Biking has been a great addition to the "Make Katie Healthy" endeavour, though I do need to go out tomorrow morning and buy a seat that actually fits. I've been doing a lot of research about biking and bicycles so that I'm buying the right gear and I know how to maintain my bike. I got it second-hand the summer before last, but yesterday was my first time out on it. Aside from the seat being too small (I'm pretty sure my sit bones are meant to be on it), it's actually a really great bicycle. I think ideally, I'd like to bike to work every morning, but we'll see where my future place of employment is actually located before I make that leap.
As several fans have already expressed, needs more Martha! But when I step back, she's had a good role for a guest character with a three episode duration. I am just horribly, horribly biased. And a fangirl, yes.
Shocker of the week: Owen is still dead. I was really sure they were going to fix that. I give it till the finale. I kind of hope they don't kill him off for good when a Sleeper agent (you know they'll be back) blows him/herself up. Also, of all of the scenes to put in the Owen video montage, why remind us of season one Owen's creepy rape habit? Why not that bit when Ianto shot him? That was much more fun and generates a lot less hostility toward the character.
The kiss between Jack and Martha should have been awesome! Instead, it was just kind of awkward and anti-climatic. I guess that's how real first kisses tend to go, but this is TV! We want spark and sizzle if that's all we're ever going to get!
The episode was pretty average. I wanted to bop Owen on the head for not being able to give mouth to mouth when a) he's talking, which means there's air in there and b) seriously, stop drawing in ragged, emotional breaths Burn Gorman, especially when Owen's talking about how he doesn't, you know, breathe. Good one-lines from Jack this week, at the very least, though again with the anti-age sentiment! Like the subtle racism, this universe is developing a bit of a habit of old = frail and bad, bad, bad. Also, unattractive, if even Jack of all people won't go there. I hope that doesn't stop Sarah Jane and Alan from making with the kisses in future episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
I also have this really terrible feeling that there isn't even going to be a bad representation of women who sleep with women this season. Tosh had Tommy, Adam, and now Owen (lol, dead boyfriends club) and Gwen has her hands full with Rhys-but-secretly-wants-Jack. Even Jackanto seems in for a rough ride, possibly even a butchering. I really want to get on the Jack/Gwen boat (and normally I am all over any canon pairing), but they read as so "siblings" or "parent/child" that it's just really weird to watch happen. And indeed, it looks like we will next week!
