Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip fell for a Starship Trooper in 1978. Click here to watch the music video and for mixed sci-fi references.

Tomes and Talismans is a post-apocalyptic library science educational video. No, really. As the YouTube descriptions says: learn all about the Dewey decimal system, card catalogues, and microfiche! And the fate of the Earth, of course. The sound quality is pretty awful at first, but give it a minute or two.

Hey, you guys like fanfiction, right? Fandoms include Doctor Who and its current spin-offs, as well as a Firefly-crossover.

1. Waltz by Irenak
It's a dance through time, only they are not dancing to same beat. This is Firefly/Doctor Who crossover that centers around Inara and Jack and their relationship. Several of the cast from both shows make guest apperances - the author's Ninth Doctor and River are particularly brilliant. But go and read it! It's a beautifully sewn together little story.

2. In the Dust of the Stars by rollingstone. Okay, so Sarah Jane has been back on Earth for about three years and Romana I is off traveling on her own. Concidence brings them together. It's been a while since I've read it, making a proper recap hard. In short, if you're a fan of either character and don't mind a little femmeslash, then please do read this.

3. Lucy and Unforgivable Sinner. by [livejournal.com profile] szm
This has been outdated by the events of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (and subsequently, the rest of the season), but the writer's portrayal of Lucy Saxon makes the piece worth reading all the same

4. General Wrongness in the Hub by [livejournal.com profile] travels_in_time Enough with serious business fics already! Here is some tasty, tasty Torchwood crackfic, taking shape of a brilliant badfic parody.

5. Trying to Communicate by [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
I don't really want to explain what this is about, because it would ruin the surprise. It's short, it's also Torchwood crackfic, and you'll probably find it reasonably annoying or hilariously fantastic. IT IS FOR GRATE LOLZ!

6. The Sarah Jane Adventures by Rose Pearse
I'd like to open this rec by saying it's not going to be for everyone. The author's style is a bit simplistic, but it works for the Sarah Jane stories. It's a little bit like reading teen fiction before the character grows up, to give an idea of the style. That said, the author has created a whack of "serials" that happily meanders through the Sarah Jane Adventures universe giving us plots that wouldn't be totally out of place on the show. Later chapters start to get a bit fantasy-fulfillment heavy (I loved it when Sarah Jane got her own sonic screwdriver - I thought it was a bit over the top when Maria was accorded her own), but it's a cute, light read that will probably please some of you.

I think that the finest thing about that video - among many things to choose from - is clearly the lead starship trooper's moustache. At least, I assume he is one of the troopers concerned.
